CMAA will be closed for Monday, January 1st for New Year’s Day.
CMAA Holiday Dinner
Fist let me say thank you for coming. With all the holidays and family get-togethers this time of year, I think it’s very meaningful that we made the effort to make time for our martial arts family.
Some of you here have known me since I was just a kid. Some people who attended, I’ve known since they were just little kids. Watching them grow up has been amazing. From their accomplishments in martial arts, to seeing them succeed academically, doing internships and playing sports like soccer and track, it’s truly been a pleasure.
This year like every year we’ve had new friends join us and seen old friends go, moving away or even passing on like our close friend Linda Hershberg. We’ve seen members go through divorces and we’ve seen members become parents, like Jake and grandparents, like Fran who got the phone call during Tai Chi!
I’d like to give a special thanks to Sandra who always has the appropriate card prepared. It’s a testament to our group and how much we care about each other.
For us, whether we practice personally or it’s our significant others or children, marital arts is part of the path in life’s journey and I’m very grateful to be on the adventure with all of you.

KUNGFU SASH TEST
We will be holding our quarterly Sash Test on Sunday, Jan 7th at 10:30am. If you are not sash testing you are still encouraged to come participate and support your teammates (no charge of course).
You know exactly what we will be testing but if you have any questions, check the Sash Requirements page on the website and feel free to clarify things with me during class.
If you are unsure whether or not you (or your child) are ready to test, please speak with me before or during class, via email at AlbanyCMAA@gmail.com or by phone (518) 755-7512.
Remember, you will not “get” your sash at CMAA – you will EARN it! There is a big difference. It’s important you (your child) learns the value of their sash- the value of hard work! Let’s stay focused and step up our training so we’re fully prepared for the test!
White/Yellow/Green/Blue: $25
Red/Purple/Orange: $50
Light Brown/Dark Brown/Gold: $75

Beautiful Kungfu
Modern Kungfu, called Wushu, is divided into two competitive divisions. One of the divisions is Sanda, or Freestyle Kickboxing, which allows for punches, kicks and throws (and knees depending on the specific competition/rules). At CMAA we introduce Sanda techniques during our Kungfu classes and focus on training them in our Kickboxing classes on Monday, Friday and Saturday. The other division is forms, or the individual empty hand and weapons routines. This is the primary focus of our Kungfu class. These forms not only develop many attributes of a martial artist, they are also incredibly beautiful and enjoyable to watch. What do you think?

Training at CMAA means knowing that you are training with the best. Our teachers take great pride in proving the most authentic and high quality instruction. Additionally, we also make efforts to continually advance our own personal practice. CMAA Combatives Instructor Steve Juman in NYC for a two day seminar with world famous Martial Arts Guru Ron Bilicki. Can’t wait to see what you learned and what you bring back to your students at CMAA!

If you’re interested in his approach to martial arts, come learn more at CMAA in our Kickboxing and Combatives class. His philosophies on martial arts, as expressed in his style Jeet Kune Do, are the core of these two classes.

Chinese New Year Performance at The Egg
It’s that time of year again- Chinese New Year Performance!!The date will be for Feb. 18th. I believe the 17th will be at the Clifton Park Library. Please speak with Shifu for ticketing information.
For the Chinese New Year performance, all students ranked light brown and above are qualified to participate. It’s a special opportunity to work with your team to put on an exciting performance, showcasing a spectacular aspect of Chinese culture in our local community, with the amazing stage, backdrop and production at The Egg! If you’re interested in participating, speak with Shifu about which performance would be most appropriate. Aside, from The Egg’s Chinese New Year celebration, we do several other performnaces throughout the year, which may be appropriate for kids are different sash ranks.
